Planning a trip to Bhutan? Wondering whether India to Bhutan by Road or Flight? If yes, this article is for you.
There are two ways by which you can reach Bhutan, you can either take a direct flight to Bhutan or else you can drive all the way to Bhutan from Bagdogra.
We decided to take a flight from Mumbai to Bagdogra.
We took our cab and started our journey towards Phuentsholing. It is one of the entry points for entering into Bhutan.
The road trip started from Bagdogra Airport and it was one hell of experience. It takes around 4 to 5 hours to reach Phuentsholing.
Note: Have food at Bagdogra itself. You won’t get much once you start your journey towards Phuentsholing. It is also advised to travel during the day as there are no street lights and the road is bumpy most of the time.
After having lunch our journey towards Phuentsholing started and by the time we reached, it was already dark. We had booked two rooms at Park Hotel. The hotel is near to the entry point and also near to the Bhutan Permit Office.
Our Stay at Park Hotel was very comfortable. I mean they prepare as you order. You also have few ATMs near the hotel.
Reach the permit office one hour before it opens as there are lots of people waiting to get their permit. You will see a lot of Tourist waiting for their permits. It is advisable to reach at permit office at least a hour before it starts so that you get your permit early. Make sure that you have all the required documents like passport, Reservation confirmations of all the Hotels that you will be staying at.
The Permit Office
Immigration office at Phuentsholing opens only on working days (Monday to Friday) from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM Bhutan Standard Time (9:30 AM to 5:30 PM IST).
It will take few hours to get your permit. So have food before you leave to take your permit and also carry plenty of water.
We checked out from our hotel and started our journey towards Paro.
Note: If you really want to explore… take a road trip from India to Bhutan.
