Amritsar is one of the most beautiful historical city in the state of Punjab, India. It share it’s border with the neighboring country Pakistan which is just 30 KM from the city.
Summer in Amritsar is extremely hot where the mercury rises well above 40 Degree Celsius. Winters are pleasant and the mercury may drop below 10 Degree Celsius.
Even though one can visit Amristar thorugh out the year, the best time to visit would be from October to March.
Most Amazing Tourist Places to visit in Amritsar
Amritsar has lot to offer but its impossible to cover all the tourist places in Amritsar when you have a limited leisure time.
Therefore in this blog, I will be talking about the 4 Most Amazing Tourist Places to visit in Amritsar.
1. Jallianwala Bagh
Located in the heart of Amritsar City, Jallianwala Bagh is a historical place which reminds of a brutal massacre.
At least 400 hundred innocent people were killed and more 1000 people were injured.
Then Acting Brigadier-General Reginald Dyer ordered troops of the British Indian Army to fire their rifles into a crowd of unarmed Indian civilians.
Former British PM David Cameron described the Amritsar massacre as “a deeply shameful event in British history “.
Government of India converted this place into a memorial garden. Even today one can see the bullet marks on the walls inside the Jallianwala Bagh.

2. The Golden Temple
Constructed in the year 1581, Golden Temple is the most important pilgrimage site of Sikhism.
I recently visited the Golden Temple and even though it was really crowded, I found peace inside the Temple.
The temple is maintained by various volunteers and they make sure that the temple premises are clean throughout the year.
Golden Temple is open to all religions, caste and creed.
Golden Temple is open throughout the day for devotees.
If you are visiting the Golden Temple, you should try eating the delicious free food provided by the Langar Seva which is operated by volunteers who work at the shrine free of cost.
3. Attari Border/ Wagha Border
Watching India Pakistan Flag off Ceremony at Attari Border (Indian Side) / Wagha Border (Pakistan Side) is highly recommended.
Entry to India Pakistan Flag off Ceremony is completely free.
The flag off ceremony is one hour of powerful performance delivered by the Border Security Force and the Pakistani Rangers.
India and Pakistan flag off ceremony is a treat to watch.
4. Quila Gobindgarh
Qila Gobindgarh is another beautiful tourist place in the middle of Amritsar.
Earlier the fort was under the control of Indian Army but Qila Gobindgarh is now open for public.
Inside the Qila, there are various stalls, museum and live performances which showcase the spirit of Punjab.
One can also also dress-up in the traditional Punjabi attire and click amazing photos just like I did.
